⛳ Beginner Golfer’s Survival Guide

Safety, enjoyment and respect for the game at St-Lambert Golf Club

Golf is a demanding sport. To ensure everyone’s safety and guarantee your enjoyment and that of other players, here are the essential steps to get started.

1. Before the course: The practice field stage

It is essential to master consistent ball contact and a minimum level of control before stepping onto the field.
  • Take advantage of our free facilities: Our practice areas are completely free and open to everyone. Come practice your swing in our driving range cage or perfect your putting and chipping shots on our practice greens.
  • Take lessons with our professionals: Start with a pro to acquire a solid foundation. All golf clubs in Quebec offer individual or group lessons tailored to your needs.
  • Learn the ethics of the game: The professional will teach you the swing, the basic rules and the ethics of golf.
  • Information and pricing: Find all the details about our academy and our professionals by visiting  golfstlambert.com/academy

2. On the course: Your first steps in a real-world situation

Once ball contact is mastered, it’s time to take the plunge, but never alone.
  • Get some guidance: Play your first rounds with an experienced golfer. They will guide you on safety and how the course works.
  • Respect the playing time: A round of 9 holes should last a maximum of 2 hours, regardless of your skill level. The smooth running of the course depends on it.
  • Respect the course:  You must return the course to the condition you found it, meaning replacing your divots, repairing your ball marks, and raking sand traps. Our teams are here to ensure you have a beautiful course from the early hours of the morning. If each group follows this rule, you will enjoy excellent conditions no matter what time of day you play.
  • Don’t hesitate to improve your ball position: When you’re starting out, don’t overcomplicate things! If your ball is buried in long grass or your feet are on a difficult slope, move your ball to give yourself good contact. The goal is to learn while having fun.
  • Opt for team formats: Play in  Vegas  (Scramble) format. Everyone takes a turn, and you choose the best ball on each shot. This eliminates pressure, speeds up the game, and remains very fun.
  • Choose the right starting markers: The different starting mounds are there to help you.
    • Golden rule: The color of the tees doesn’t determine a golfer’s age or gender. Choose them solely based on your driving distance. If, after three good shots on a par 5, you haven’t reached the green, you’re playing too far back. Move forward to the next tees. The players behind you will appreciate your humility and pace of play. Pride has no place on a golf course.

⚠️ Security Section: Let’s protect our community

Golf involves risks, and safety is everyone’s responsibility, both on and off the course.
  • Be mindful of the neighborhood: There are residences and children along our course. Always be careful about the trajectory of your shots.
  • The official warning cry: If your ball is heading towards other players or surrounding properties, it is extremely important to shout “FORE!” firmly to warn people of the danger.

3. Evolution: The pleasure of competition

Golf is a continuous journey where enjoyment evolves with your skills.
  • Progress at your own pace: When playing time and technique are no longer a challenge, you can start counting all your shots, applying all the official rules and competing with your partners.
  • Keep the fun going: Even with experience, you will often return to team-based activities for the simple pleasure of sharing a friendly moment.
Enjoy your golfing, everyone, and remember to have fun without depriving others of it!
